Our Pittsburgh Dentist Practice have gone to great lengths to make your dental experience a pleasant one. We want to make sure that we can give you immediate dental pain relief.
Sedation Dentistry Use: Sedation Dentistry takes the "Fear" out of Dentistry and provides some dental pain remedies. Sedation Dentistry is recommended for those who have low pain tolerances as well as those who cannot loosen up during their dental visit.
Sedation Dentistry is also commonly known as Relaxation Dentistry. Those who require a great deal of dental treatment should consider the use of Sedation Dentistry for dental pain and sensitive teeth.
I.V. (intravenous) Sedation: Is used at a dental office that uses medications that are added to the patient's blood stream. The advantage if this kind of tranquilizer is that if the doctor needs to lessen the anxiety or dental pain from the individual, additional medication can be administered to the patient. In addition, the effects of the medication are immediate. Also, the patient is usually "out" during the sedation period and is not aware of the dental treatments.
Oral Sedation: Is medication prescribed to be taken orally that is in the form of a pill or liquid. The patient must swallow the medication or breathe in the medication (nitrous oxide). Each patient results are different because patients may have a different body weight, previous drug history, and genetics. These factors may determine the amount of sedation needed for the patient to be relaxed and ease dental pain.
Oral Sedation (Tranquilizer): If you are nervous to have treatment done, we can offer you a tranquilizer such as Valium, which will calm the patient and give him a much better experience. Many patients opt for this. The only drawback is that it takes an hour or two to wear off and we recommend coming for your dental appointment with someone who can drive you home. For those who have chosen this method, who have had a lot of pain previously will find dental pain relief afterwards.
Nitrous Oxide, (Laughing Gas): One of our best and simplest options is the use of nitrous oxide or as it is commonly referred to "laughing gas." If a patient decides to use this, they simply breathe in a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This gives the patient a feeling a happiness and sometimes even giddiness. They feel much better about having their dental work done and the best part of it is when the procedure is finished we turn off the nitrous oxide portion, the patient breathes pure oxygen, and within about 3-5 minutes they are back to normal. The patient can visit our Pittsburgh Dentist Office and safely drive home on their own as necessary.
Oral Sedation (Tranquilizer): If you are nervous to have treatment done, we can offer you a tranquilizer such as Valium, which will calm the patient and give him a much better experience.
